In 1987 Function Control was founded by people of the faculty astronomy of the University of Groningen. Today there is still a tight relationship with the University and technology centers in the north of Groningen.

In the first years, Function Control was involved in many different project for automation and monitoring processes.

In the beginning of the 90’s, Function Control supplied the first vision system for sheet counting to the former board plant Beukema in Groningen, currently know as ESKA Graphic Board.

This first sheet counting system was based on a astronomy-type of parabol made out of 76 mirrors and a reverse mounted camera that captured a complete stack of board in one picture.

In the mid 90’s the Function Control required a more global approach to the board industry, and the company was taken over by the Zernike Group. A group that is specialised in supporting start-ups and generating venture capital.

In 2000, Function Control co-operated with Sappi Maastricht in order to develop a sheet counting system for offset paper, capable of counting sheets from 60 µm thickness. Besides the counting, Function Control also developed a lasermarking solution as the alternative to paper tabbing.

In 2007 Function Control was purchased by BHS Corrugated, a world leading manufacturer of corrugated board machines. Since than we had a fruitful co-operation.

Today, Function Control has over 200 installation in over 25 countries world wide. We are proud to mention that our systems are running in all the world leading paper groups, folding carton groups and corrugated board groups.
